"Wimbledon-The Party Begins”

The new season of Wimbledon is ready to rock and roll from 23rd of June and the excitement level for this tournament is humungous like every year. But this year Nadal and Djokovic have added an extra spice to the tournament which has seen only one champion for the last five year “Roger Federer”. Needless to say that Fed Ex is the favourite this time too but after the annihilating defeat against Nadal in the French open and a shocking defeat at the hands of Djokovic in the Australian open, the competition would be very close this time around.

The Surface Grass is very different than clay and Federer’s 59 match undefeated run on grass shows his total dominance over others in world tennis.Though, this time Nadal is in incredible form. After winning the French open, he has also won a very prestigious grass court tournament at queens beating a very impressive Djokovic in the finals. We also have very good grass court players in the form of Andy Roddick and Hewitt who can surprise any one on their day. Andy Murray is one more player who has caught our imagination in the last year and would be exciting to watch. Home Crowd at the Wimbledon would be definitely behind him.

A very good thing about Men’s tennis now is that players are closing in on Federer and the tournaments are getting more interesting with the competition around. But, if I have to choose one player before the tournament I would still choose federer for his impeccable class and consistency in Wimbledon.

As far as the women’s tennis goes defending champion Venus Williams does not look in that good a form. But she can anytime come back with her power packed performances like she surprised all of us in the previous edition of the Wimbledon. Her younger sister Serena is another force to reckon with in any grand slam, this being no exception. Maria Sharapova is another name in women’s tennis who would be one of the favorites to win the wimbledon’2008.Though this time we have the reigning world number 1 Ana Ivanovic who is in amazing form for the last one year and was a semifinalist last year. The good thing about Ivanovic is that she plays well in all the surfaces. She would be my bet for winning this tournament.

Exciting times are ahead. Let’s hope for an interesting battle at the Wimbledon.
Though, we would definitely miss the true champion named “Justin Henin Hardene” at Wimbledon who announced an untimely retirement before the French open.
