India- Aus Test Series: Rigidity at its Best!
My mom says the first time I bunked school was during the
1992 world cup when India lost to Australia by a run. I remember I was
extremely sad then and to cheer me up, my mom gave me 2 coins to play Contra in
the nearby video game shop! It’s been 20 years now and I believe like
everything, life has taken a full circle for Indian cricket team. India started
the series with a lot of promise but then squandered away the initiative,
showing signs that something is going wrong in the heads of our heroes! Few flashes of brilliance in Melbourne gave us hope that may be this series
will not be as embarrassing as the one in England. Although, the story from then has been
“all shot to hell” and our so called best batting line up in the world has been
shown the doors thousand times on the pitch in the corridors of uncertainty! The
most baffling part of the whole episode has been the selection. If an average
of around 20 in the last 7 overseas test matches doesn’t ring a bell to our
team then the word “deaf” has been redefined. We had nothing to lose in Adelaide, one tiny
thing we could have done for our own good was to give Rohit Sharma a chance in
the Test arena. But I guess we had already decided that even if a mountain
falls on our head, we will keep on saying that we are not trapped yet. I was bemused and baffled when I read R.
Ashwin saying that we are extremely disappointed but not embarrassed. If loosing
eight overseas test matches on a trot doesn’t embarrass our heroes then we are
not far away from loosing another eight! I have deep respect for our legends
and what they have done for our country but unfortunately it has gone down by a
bit now. May be they are humans for me now!
