"The Best Wimbledon Final ever”

Ohh it’s been two weeks now. But the memory of that improbable match is still fresh and alive in my mind and heart. I am sure it would remain forever. It was a true delight to watch the two geniuses at play matching stroke by stroke. What was delightful to see the way two handled themselves post match. One man was the reigning champion, the untouchable who has caught hold of the famous Wimbledon trophy for the last five years now. The other was the lion hearted genius, trying relentlessly to catch the same for the last three years. But there was no bad taste after the match and both of them complimented each other like true champions. They are true idols for everyone around.

The match started with an early break in favour of Nadal, Though Federer had his chances in the first set, Nadal definitely was the better player in the first set. Second set was a bit dramatic and after the 4-1 lead for fed ex, no one would have imagined the eventual scoreline, 6-4, in favour of Nadal. I have hardly seen Federer squandering his chances this way. It felt at that time Nadal would rout past Federer in the third set. But when these two lions are playing you have to always expect the unexpected. Federer raised his game and managed to win the third set 7-6. Then in the fourth set, Nadal had championship points.Federer’s brilliance was on display here as he managed to save them. But, the most memorable short to save the championship was the back hand pass by fed ex. That was truly remarkable. Federer finally managed to win the set 7-6. The tides seemed to be turning but Nadal did not give up and put all his muscular power in the final set. Finally his physical and mental strength proved to be too strong for Federer on 6th of July’08.

There were some magic moments in this match and some of it was truly delectable.
The rain breaks could neither manage the delirious fans to fade away from the centre court nor the billions watching on television. It was all worth watching as eventually a new champion was born named ‘Rafael Nadal’. The flashing cameras could not quite match the happiness and joy exuberating out of Nadal’s face. I was backing Federer all the way, but strangely seeing Nadal with the trophy propelled tears out of my eyes. I am still not sure whether it was out of happiness. But, one thing I am sure of is that this was by far the best Wimbledon final I have ever seen.

I beg to differ, The Ivanasavic(spelling does not seem right, haven't seen the name since the 2001 Finals)Rafter Finals was one better than the 2008 Wimbledon Finals. Not just the Finals but the whole of Wimbledon was full of drama. Ivanasavic, having lost 3 finals before 2001, gained entry into the tournament as a wild card and went on to create history by lifting the coveted trophy. Pre Finals, he was saved not once but twice by the rain god. In the Final, Ivanasavic kept his date with destiny by serving out the match in true Ivanasavic Style with 3 service winner with the same ball, which was asked to be returned after each service. Then came the characteristic Wimbledon celebration followed by an emotional speech in which he said he did not care what happens to him from this moment onwards and of course thanking his dad for sitting through his matches inspite of his heart problems. The final pictures showed Ivanasavic walking out of the centre court hugging the trophy and into oblivion.
So what makes the 2001 wimbledon so memorable? Well, its the underdog winning against all odds as against two great champions battling it out at the centre. Now dont you think the 2008 Finals comes a close second to the 2001 Finals?

Dude how can i forget that Wimbledon and the moment when Goran Ivansevic won his final point. It will be one of those rare magic moments on the Tennis court which will remain forever in our hearts.
But,the level of Tennis in the 2008 final was out of this world.I mean i have never seen the way some of the points were played in this final in crunch situations.
I know we all are emotional about the 2001 final but for me the 2008 final had all the drama, emotions and high standard of play which makes it the best Wimbledon final i have ever seen!
