"Aarushi Murder Case-An Eye opener"

“Aarushi Murder Case-An Eye opener”

What we have witnessed in the Aarushi- Hemraj murder case has been anything but outrageous. The whole case has been an eye opener for the Media and the General public. Media is a very important tool which unfortunately has been misused by the police and the media itself. Each and every Case is being turned into a soap opera as it leads to high TRP’s. Commercialization of the News channels has had an adverse effect on its content.

Blaming a Father for the murder of his own daughter is something which is very new to the Indian society. The hearts of an average Indian would not agree to this theory. No one can empathize with the family and the grief they are undergoing right now as it is an all together new territory which hardly anyone has experienced. Though we must respect the investigation by police, the manner in which it has been carried out has left all of us to ponder about the Truth. I was watching the show “We the People” on NDTV and a very interesting thing which came out from the show was the way Police have used the Media. It was told by Mr. Deepak of the channel Aaj Tak that the police had given them information about Mr. Rajesh Talwar as the prime accused, wherein at that point of time a family source revealed that they had advised the Talwars not to talk to the media as it would disrupt the Investigation!.So immediately after that the Media started splashing “Aarushi ka hathyara uska apna baap (Aarushi’s murderer is his own father)!” without any cross verification and conclusive evidence. One would have expected a little more sensitivity and patience from the Media which unfortunately is not their cup of tea anymore.

The way police has come out in Public and have given theories of Aarushi having some kind of illicit relationship with Hemraj (Talwar’s Domestic help) is shocking. How can the police do a character assassination of the deceased? Is she there to prove her Innocence? That also when the investigation is under process, how can the police come out with conclusions and make it Public. This only hints to an outsider that the police are not clear about the facts and their own investigation.

Each and every Investigation has its own due course but all of us as a society needs to be a little less judgmental. We (Police, Media and the Public) need to show a lot of patience because life is not a soap opera and the one who has died will never come back but the soul of a fourteen year old kid would always be appalled to come again in the so called “Civilized Society”

I completely agree with your thoughts. High time that Govt puts some censorship on media to avoid commercializing the news and playing with the emotions of those involved in the news.

Agreed that the media does go overboard at times and in this case the Noida police seems to have only provided more fodder for the media to play up with, but also let us not forget there have been many times when the media has played a role of creating public awareness and thus an outrage of sorts (Jessica Lall Case).
But yes the news channels really need to stop creating a soap opera of everything and get back to serious journalism.

I agree with you Divya to the fact that channels like NDTV have done a commendable job in Jesica Lal and Nitish Katara case. But, unfortunately majority of channels still treat News as Soap Opera

The worst was India which showed an 'alleged' MMS. That was rock-bottom that the media could ever reach.

I agree, some of the channels are going way beyond what is civilized and responsible
